Fête de la Musique in Marseille

June 21, 2024

Every June 21, it’s the same old story… What are we doing this year for the Fête de la Musique? Where are we going? Well, I’d have to say Marseille, of course!
Once again this year, we’re going to be celebrating in style this unmissable festival that opens the summer season! Here’s a small selection of places that are just waiting for you to party the night away!

Published on 19 June 2024

Around the Old Port

If you’re in the Old Port this June 21, come and enjoy the warm, festive atmosphere in one of the many Irish pubs on the Quai de Rive Neuve, from the Little Temple Bar to the Shamrock, you’ll be spoilt for choice! The Queen Victoria, the only English pub in the area, is not to be outdone! You’re sure to find a party atmosphere in this corner of the Old Port!
If you prefer the Deep blu party at the Radisson blu, don’t forget your swimwear! If you’d rather take in the sights, head to the Citadelle for an evening under the stars, on Fort Entrecasteaux, where you’ll be in awe of the panorama before you. Reservations required, so hurry!

Downtown

In the Docks Village area of La Joliette, La Place des Canailles hosts a crazy Flower power atmosphere, with body painting and a glitter bar, accompanied by a saxophone concert and a DJ who will keep you dancing until 2am. Afrohouse fans should head to R2,Rooftop des Terrasses du Port for an unforgettable Mamacita evening. If you prefer to stay on the rooftops and enjoy a great meal, head to Les Réformés !

Too much for you? Prefer something more classic? We’ve got that in Marseille too! Head to theOpérade Marseille, where the Ecole Nationale de Danse presents a fabulous ballet, Swan Lake.

If you want to travel, come and vibrate to sounds from Africa and elsewhere on the Toit Terrasse of La Friche la Belle de Mai, where you’ll be swaying to Afro-Rock and funk sounds. For an Argentinian Tango vibe, we’ll be at theItalianInstitute (Rue Fernand Pauriol, 5th arrondissement) from 5.30pm – and yes, Italians dance Tango too! At the Alcazar library, you’ll plunge into Indonesia from 5.30pm with a traditional Balinese percussion ensemble, and discover the gamelan (percussion ensemble).

If you head a little further up towards Place Castellane, pass through Cours Gouffé and enjoy a craft beer at Zoumaï’s to groovy, soulful and rocking rhythms, with a concert starting at 6pm. A little higher up, in the heights of the Vauban district, at the foot of Notre-Dame de la Garde, take a stroll through this typical neighborhood and enjoy an evening of music at Maison Vauban with a DJ from the Marseilles scene.

On the Cours Julien

The Cours Julien district in the heart of the city is THE place to be for parties and music, and if there’s one place to go that day, this is it. This unmissable district is home to a host of bars and restaurants. Take a stroll between Place Notre Dame du Mont, Place Jean-Jaures and Cours Julien , and let your imagination run wild.
La Dame du Mont offers a rich and varied program, as well as homemade cocktails, to get us in the summer mood! Still on the Place Notre-Dame du Mont, the Red Lion Down Town is a Marseillaise version of the English Pub, where the whole team is on hand to celebrate the arrival of summer with music! Not far away, in the same British spirit, you’ll find Le Morrison’s.

Sea side

There’ll be a festive atmosphere on the seafront too, starting with the party organized by Fun Radio in the Freestyle Cup village close to Escale Borely. DJs will be on hand from 7pm to keep you dancing well into the night! Not far away, the emblematic Le Red Lion pub will be hosting live bands and DJs from 7pm. On the Corniche Kennedy, Le Château Promicea opens its doors this year for an evening of bohemian chic music, starting at 6pm. If you’re looking for something a little more original, come along to the open-air vernissage of the 2024 Sometimes x AVA collection, followed by a DJ set by thenatural swimming pool in the Vallon des Auffes.

If you want to get away from it all, take to the sea and spend an evening with the Jardins Suspendus onthe island of Chateau d’If for a timeless evening.

A little further afield

In the enchanting setting of the Château de la Buzine, come and celebrate music from 7pm for a special ABBA evening, aperitif and film session! The atmosphere will also be hot at the Château de Forbin, where Son des Guitares will be concocting a crazy musical evening in its gardens!
At Bastide de la Salette, the evening will be all about sport and music. Join us at 8 p.m. for the French team’s 2nd round Euro match, and then keep the party going on the dance floor!
Do you know the Talus? Well, this June 21 is your chance to find out! An exceptional socio-environmental and cultural venue. An open-air evening of activities, games and music!

These are just a few suggestions, as every district of Marseilles is celebrating on this day, with many groups and singers, amateur or otherwise, taking over a bar, restaurant or even a street corner, to set the mood for the arrival of summer in music! Don’t hesitate to let us know what you think!
