  • Marseille in 3 words

    Solar, bubbling, authentic

  • My favourite neighbourhood

Saint-Victor. Historical district with its Abbey so famous in Marseille since it is there that the famous orange blossom shuttles are blessed every year at Candlemas, but also trendy district with great addresses for a drink and a meal.

The new places to try out

Many new addresses have opened recently and they all make you want to try them out! We start with Beer’Ocratie, we love its decoration, its cosy terrace where you can have a drink even when it’s cold, and especially the barman’s audacity who doesn’t hesitate to make you try cocktails even from using ingredients you thought you wouldn’t like. All in all, everything is delicious and at a very reasonable price, starting from 8€ (and 6€ for non-alcoholic cocktails). We go back up to the Cours Julien and stop at the Soifferie, a must-see terrace in Notre-Dame du Mont! The bar has only been open for a few months and already the regulars of the area are flocking there, it must be said that with its friendly atmosphere, its punctual events such as ephemeral thrift shops, or its well-stocked cocktail menu, it has everything to please! We stay focused and move on to the third newcomer, and not the least, I’m talking of course about Bisette on André Poggioli street. Fanny, Yann and Laurent opened this new address recently with two talented mixologists behind the bar who have created a menu of eight signature cocktails. The atmosphere is intimate and rather chill with a neat decoration and many dj events during the month.

The essentials

Who hasn’t dreamt of drinking a cocktail with a view of the Old Port from the Dantes, the bar at the Sofitel hotel? At sunset, with a background of lounge music and a chic atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for a date with friends or lovers! Also in the 7th arrondissement, go to Gaspard’s, the place to be for an after work drink, just down the boulevard de la Corderie. A few times a month they organise parties in collaboration with local restaurateurs to accompany your cocktails with great food! We’re heading a little further up the 6th arrondissement to party at two unmissable addresses, Le Directoire and CopperBay. Le Directoire on rue Edmond Rostand, in the heart of the Antiquity district, offers original cocktails, forgotten spirits and good cheese and cold cut platters in the evening. At Copper Bay on rue Fort Notre-Dame, in a Mediterranean setting, you can enjoy surprising drinks made with fresh products by seasoned mixologists, for whom the art of the cocktail has no secrets! The Carry Nation, like any good ‘speakeasy’, keeps its address a secret until you have made a reservation, but we advise you to visit this Marseille staple to plunge into the days of prohibition!

The city’s gems

Let’s move away from the city centre to enjoy the Parpaing Qui Flotte, a real institution in the Chave district, which offers affordable cocktails and great tapas. Don’t forget to make a reservation as it has been so successful for several years that it is often full! A little further along the Réformés, you’ll find the Apotek Bar, a small bar in size but with great cocktails on the menu! In addition to a rather cheap price for a cocktail (between 5 and 10€), the atmosphere is chic but still friendly, to be tried urgently. On the Castellane side, we no longer need to introduce the Ebenisterie, with its patio ideal for an aperitif even in winter, its well-decorated room, its delicious cocktails and even its plates to share which will delight your taste buds! Back to the Old Port, with the Shamrock’s Side, known by the inhabitants of Marseille and tourists passing through, it is nestled in the heart of the Irish pub The Shamrock and the cosy and lounge atmosphere during afterwork allows you to taste a great cocktail among a menu that will please everyone!
