Its construction dates from the end of the 17th century, a time of architectural innovation and research. Directly inspired by Italian architects, the Bastide is designed in a confusing way, mixing elements of classical and baroque styles. A 200 sqm hall, now with parquet flooring, occupies the whole of the ground floor, while in the wings a boudoir and a library open onto the elaborately designed garden, with a small wood, an avenue of plane trees, boulingrins, rose gardens, fountains, ponds, statues and meadows.
Since the 17th century, the Bastide of the Magalone has passed through the hands of different owners, each one making changes. In the 19th century, one of them built a small circular chapel at the entrance to the garden.
The place is magical : when you pass in front of the "villa", you don't stop, you linger. Music courses and concerts are offered all year round by the "Cité de la Musique de Marseille". What could be better than the Magalone for artistic inspiration ?
The Bastide and its gardens are open during the music lessons of the "Cité de la Musique".
