Built in the 13th century by the Counts of Baux, the castle dominates the town of Cassis.
The term castle is not quite accurate. It refers to the ancient walled city of Cassis in which each family had its own residence. The inhabitants went out in the morning either to go fishing or to work the land and returned in the evening. The castle is not open to the public.
