A priory existed on its site as early 581. The vocation of Notre-Dame du Mont ( Our Lady of the Mount) dates back to 1588. The present building was built during the "Restoration" and in the second half of the 19th century(neo-classical façade).
The old chapel was the place of pilgrimage for sailors before the church "Notre-Dame de la Garde" was built.
