The permanent collection has been arranged into three sections according to their original acquisition.
African displays: this is a collection of over a hundred masks, statues and sculptures. These items were donated to the Museum by Pierre Guerre, an avid collector of works of art from the continent from the age of 12 years onwards.
Oceania-America displays: a collection of eighty skulls and masks include objects from Vanuatu and Amerindian feather ornaments.
Mexican displays: this is a collection of popular art from Mexico. Over 3,000 items include masks, ‘trees of life’ and other sculptures. They were donated to the city of Marseille by the collector François Reinchenbach.
Visit the Museum’s collections in a fun and innovative way! There are free smartphone and tablet apps to download by visiting the Google play and app store. Activity packs for children (ages 7 to 10) are available from the ticket office and via our website.
Due to a temporary technical failure, the Museum’s lift is currently out of order. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused. Please be aware that some of the galleries may be closed at the time of your visit, we urge you to consider contacting the Museum before you visit us.
