The Éoures district

The Éoures district is located in the 11th arrondissement to the east of Marseille, at the foot of the hills so dear to Marcel Pagnol. It is mainly a residential area, offering a peaceful, leafy setting, with many natural areas in the vicinity. Single-family homes and small residences nestle among the pine trees, much to the delight of families and individuals who appreciate this setting between town and country. The area benefits from a calm and tranquil environment, far from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. It’s an ideal place for those seeking peace and quiet and close proximity to nature. Éoures is renowned for its rolling hills and picturesque landscapes. It is surrounded by the Garlaban massif, which offers great opportunities for hiking and walking.

A peaceful, welcoming district

Although the Éoures district of Marseille is mainly residential, there are still plenty of activities and points of interest to discover, including hiking in the surrounding hills, particularly in the Garlaban massif. You can explore the footpaths and hiking trails to discover the beauty of nature and enjoy its magnificent green landscapes, a real little haven of peace! Éoures is surrounded by greenery, making it an ideal spot for an outdoor picnic. There are plenty of green spaces and rest areas where you can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. The area also offers opportunities for outdoor sports enthusiasts. You can go cycling, trail running, mountain biking or even climbing.

Near the Éoures district is the village of La Treille, the town of Aubagne and the commune of Allauch. Here we follow in the footsteps of Marcel Pagnol, the son of a schoolteacher who became a member of the Académie Française. The author drew inspiration from his memories and the surrounding countryside to write a number of masterpieces, including Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources, as well as his essential autobiographical novels La Gloire de mon père and Le Château de ma mère, and the area has been used as a backdrop for a number of film adaptations. You can visit these places to soak up their Provençal charm, discover their local markets and admire their historic monuments.

The Éoures district is home to a selection of top-quality restaurants, and you can find a number of charming addresses where you can enjoy delicious Provençal cuisine, washed down with a Provençal wine.

In the past, the Éoures district was mainly a rural area, with farmland and estates. It was known for its olive groves, vineyards and cereal crops (some farms still exist today). Over time, the Éoures district has undergone urban development, with new homes being built and families moving in. However, it has managed to preserve its peaceful, natural character.
