Very deep and winding, it has long been appreciated by sailors for the shelter and safety it offers.
It is also the only one, which for several centuries had an industrial activity. The "Pierre de Cassis", excellent limestone of Cretaceous, gave rise to the exploitation of important quarries (of which one can still see the vestiges) until 1981.
