In 1844, Franz Liszt, visiting Marseille to order a piano from Boisselot, took advantage of the opportunity to give a charity concert there. Production ceased in 1917.

Go a little further up the rue des trois Mages to watch for a moment the pétanque players on the field overlooking the Place Carli. (2) Return to the Cours Julien. (3) At number 34, stop to visit the Licorne soap factory (4).

Since the early 1990s, the Cours Julien district has been a place of open-air artistic expression. Since 2013, monumental frescoes have covered the steps and risers of the staircase linking Cours Julien to rue Estelle (5). Cross the Cours Julien into rue Crudère, then take the first left into rue Vian. When this leads into rue des Trois Mages, turn right. Continue until you reach rue des trois Rois. This intersection is the Place du chien Saucisse (6). Rue des trois Rois is home to a number of small restaurants and places to eat and drink. The parallel streets, Pastoret and Bussy l'Indien, are the realm of thrift shops. And like all the other streets, the walls and storefronts are covered with frescoes, collages and stencils by local, national and international artists. To find out more about this urban art, don't miss the guided tour offered by the tourist office, bookable at www.marseilleexperience.com.
On Rue Bussy l'Indien, enter the antique and modern book store, featuring rare editions. When you reach the Champ de Mars bistro, a local institution just like Le Petit Pernod, turn right into rue des trois Mages. Cross the rue des 3 frères Barthélémy into the rue Fontange. At the end, you'll reach the Notre-Dame du Mont church (7). Retrace your steps and continue along rue de la Loubière to the Mama Shelter. (8)
