When should you travel to Marseille?

In summer, during the months of July and August, Marseille welcomes many visitors to enjoy its beaches. From l’Estaque to l’anse du Bain des Dames, Catalans beach, Prophète beach and the Prado beaches, come and lay down your towel for a moment of idleness. Whether you’re perfecting your tan, playing on the beach or indulging in water sports, you’ll never be bored. A dip in the Mediterranean sea will refresh you to endure the summer heat.

In the evening, when the temperature drops, take the opportunity to sit on the terrace of a restaurant in the Vieux-Port or by the sea on the Corniche Kennedy, or curl up in an intimate cove like the Vallon des Auffes to sample local specialties, especially fish.

It’s also in the summer months that you can take part in the numerous events and festivals organized for a festive time: Marsatac festival, Delta Festival, Jazz des Cinq Continents, the Freestyle Cup…. Artists from all over the world come to Marseille to perform and offer Marseillais and tourists lively evenings.

Marseille at mid-season

If you’re not sure where to go in September, head for Marseille! September is the ideal month to enjoy the still summery temperatures in the South, and without the crowds you can continue to head to the beach or to one of the creeks in the Calanques National Park such as the Sugiton or Morgiou creeks for a swim and to polish up your tan before heading back to the office. The Phocaean city is a prime destination for seeing the sun in September.

You can also choose Marseille as your base for seeing the sun in October. You’ll enjoy strolling the streets of Marseille, from the Panier district to Les Goudes, via Cours Julien and the Endoume district. Boutiques, cafés and restaurants and historic monuments will punctuate your stroll.
