Anses and Calanques urban trail game

Today I’m discovering the Endoume district, located in the 7th district of Marseille and wedged between the hill of Notre-Dame de la Garde, the Catalans and the Corniche Kennedy. Endoume is a typical neighbourhood that holds many secrets! That’s why I chose a playful way to visit it, a life-size treasure hunt. The appointment is made, it is with Cité-Rando that we will spend part of the afternoon looking for clues, allowing us to find a treasure and thus discover this famous district.

The Castellane district. Always lively even on Sundays. You can have a drink with friends, have a coffee before going to work or stroll around the market on Saturday morning.

The meeting point and the departure in search of the treasure

We find our guide Eric in front of the Catalans’s beach, the place chosen for our meeting. After giving the instructionsand the road book, we set off for 5 kilometers of urban hiking!
Very quickly, the game begins as soon as it is composed in pairs of 2. Throughout our journey, Eric enlightens us by giving historical and cultural explanations of the places crossed.
We have to be attentive because the clues are everywhere, above, below, sometimes so obvious that we don’t see them! We carefully and discreetly write down our discoveries (rebus, riddles) there are about twenty of them… We have to have eyes everywhere!

Unsuspected places and alleys

Once we pass the familiar streets and places, a few minutes later, by taking unsuspected stairs and passages, we discover alleys that seem to be frozen in time. The view of the city and the Mediterranean is breathtaking!
We cross little paths full of flowers and sometimes wellhidden, that even the most citizen of Marseille would never suspect their existence. We continue our adventure and gradually discover our puzzles, sometimes not obvious! We missed a few of them! Passed these small streets, it is on the sea that we come out, in a small cove where many citizens of Marseille have their habits. We follow the sea until we reach Malmousque where the game in June is for whoever dives from the highest. Throughout our hike, Eric, our guide, tell us the history of the place and the related anecdotes, we feel he is really passionate about his job.

Good to know

Although this tour takes place in town, remember that it is above all a hike which requires good suitable shoes and enough water! It’s climbing and climbing!

If you plan to book in summer, do the activity preferably in the morning and if it’s in winter, prefer the afternoon instead!

The end of our journey

The 3 hours of urban adventures are coming to an end in the Vallon des Auffes. So many places crossed that you absolutely have to discover! Although we didn’t win, we found the treasure and had answered most of the questions, we were too busy admiring these authentic and unexpected places 2 steps from the city centre! Quiet ! I won’t tell you more!
