In order for all Marseilles residents to fully enjoy the beaches and swimming, the city of Marseilles has multiplied its initiatives in favor of the disabled and, more generally, those with reduced mobility.
The beaches of Prado Sud and Prado Nord were the first coastal beaches to be awarded the "Tourism and Disability" label in France, as early as 2005.
They were awarded the "Tourism and Disability" label in France in 2005.
This label was renewed in 2016.
Several criteria contributed to obtaining this label: the consideration of different disabilities, the quality of reception, beach and sports activities.
The Prado South and Prado North beaches are fully accessible to wheelchair users and blind or visually impaired people and mentally or psychologically disabled people.
Eight "Tiralos", amphibious vehicles, are available for the more severely disabled to reach the water and enjoy the swim.
For those who are able to swim independently, physical assistance is available for entering and exiting the water.
The staff of the Division of Disabled Persons is present all summer long to welcome and individually accompany people with disabilities.
This staff is reinforced by 9 seasonal workers for the months of July and August.
Two prefabricated structures and a tent complete this device by offering air-conditioned changing rooms, toilets, accessible showers, as well as a medical bed and a patient lift to facilitate the transfers
