- 19th and 20th century Provencal landscapes
- Marseille and its hinterland take centre stage
- Little Provençal masters: Loubon, Guigou, Ponson, Garibaldi...
- Provence, the subject of modern art: Marquet, Camoin, Manguin
The exhibition brings together some forty paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries, drawn from the collection of the Fondation Regards de Provence, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. It takes visitors on a journey back in time through Marseille, the southern coast and the Provencal countryside, highlighting the beauty and realism of the works of landscape painters and the talent of naturalist, fauvist and expressionist colourists. Our region is an open-air studio! Provençal painters are in the limelight with Émile Loubon, Raphaël Ponson and Paul Guigou, who most often depict timeless rural Provence, marked by the weight of tradition. Modernists such as René Seyssaud, Louis Valtat and Charles Camoin were bold colourists inspired by the post-impressionist and Fauvist palette.
