What to do?

Arriving at Saint-Charles station

Are you arriving in Marseille by train at Gare Saint-Charles or by bus? Welcome to Marseille!
Here are some directions to get you where you want to go, on foot or by public transport, from the Gare Saint Charles station. Heading towards the main exit, you’ll find yourself in Square de Narvik. Slightly to the right, discover the monumental staircase of the Gare St Charles overlooking the city center, and … a little further on, if the blue sky lends itself, admire Notre-Dame de la Garde welcoming you!

You want to go to the Old Port

Go on foot

Just take the big stairs from the station down to Place des Marseillaises. Then straight on! Go down Boulevard d’Athènes, Boulevard Dugommier, and you’re on the Canebière! Turn right and you’ll reach the Vieux Port at the end! If you decide to go straight ahead, you’ll reach the Cours Julien district via Boulevard Garibaldi.

Getting there by metro

Stay inside the station and go down to the 2nd basement level to metro line 1, direction La Fourragère, Vieux Port stop. You can choose to exit at the bottom of the Canebière or directly onto the Vieux Port platform! You can find all the information you need about public transport in Marseille on the RTM website.

You want to go to the Joliette ferry terminal

On foot

Walk down Boulevard Maurice Bourdet to Boulevard Charles Nedelec. You’ll arrive at Porte d’Aix, then walk down Boulevard des Dames to Quai de la Joliette and the Gare Maritime.

Getting there by metro

Inside the Saint-Charles station, go down to the 2nd basement level and take metro line 2 towards Gèze, stopping at the Joliette station. You can find all the information you need about public transport in Marseille on the RTM website.

You want to get to the cruise port?

You won’t be able to get there on foot, but cabs are available from the station cab rank.
You can’t get there by public transport. Take metro line 2 towards Gèze, get off at La Joliette and then take bus 35T to the “Terminal Croisières” terminus. You’ll still have between 800m and 1.8km to walk, depending on the boarding platform.
A free shuttle bus is sometimes available from La Joliette.

You want to see the sea!

You arrive in Marseille at the Saint-Charles train station and the first thing you think of is seeing the sea? Then don’t wait, head for the Vieux-Port, as explained above. The choice is yours. The first beach is the Catalans, just 2 steps from the Old Port by bus 83 or simply on foot. All along the seafront, from the center of town to the gateway to the Calanques, at Les Goudes, you’ ll find places to swim. Pebbles, sand, rocky coves – the choice is yours!
