Day 1 : The Marseille highlights
Morning: Take the little tourist train to visit Notre-Dame de la Garde (Our Lady of the guard) Basilica and enjoy the panoramic view over Marseille. Proceed with a boat trip to the If Castle island, famous prison of the Count of Monte Cristo and the islands of Frioul or sail to the Calanques National Park and enjoy the exceptional bay of Marseille and its breathtaking landscapes.
Afternoon: Visit of the Mucem, National Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations opened in 2013, then discover the replica of the prehistoric Cosquer Méditerranée cave for a trip back to the Ice Age and explore the cave art dating from 33,000 to 19,000 years ago. Finally, discover the suburb ‘Le Panier‘, the oldest district in France with its historical monuments: the Cathedral of the Major, the Old Charity, its narrow streets looking like a village with its handcraft shops (navette biscuits, olive oil chocolate, soaps, ceramics…).
Evening: Enjoy a Provencal restaurant around the Old Port, then to extend the evening, continue the party on the Old Port or on a rooftop at the Friche Belle de Mai or at the Terrasses du Port.
